Dysrhythmia - Barriers And Passages (2006)

Dysrhythmia - Barriers And Passages (2006)Relapse Records

The band with so unconventional name must play something distinct in comparison to thousands of average groups. Dysrhythmia was founded in 1999 and released three studio albums and a live CD until the year 2004. There were some changes in the line-up, however Americans' fourth release was recorded by a trio: Kevin Hufnagel (guitar), Colin Marston (bass guitar) and Jeff Eber (drums).

Upon listening to their stuff, I have an impression of instrumental fuss and disarray. Guitar solos are reduced to the minimum in rhythmic twisters' favour. Dysrhythmia is characterized by a featured bass parts and tracks' construction based on jazz and heavy music patterns. I have no doubt that they lean towards experimental gambits and complex instrumental structures. Although their parts are instrumentally tensed and sophisticated, I am convinced they get right. Sometimes, they take the liberty of disharmonious inclinations, but they perform them showing a musical intelligence. An unpractised listeners can accuse Dysrhythmia of incoherency, but they probably depart from the truth. Their music isn't easy in reception, however they know what timing is and how it can testify their technical dexterity.

In spite of the fact there is a great complexity in compositions, the material is legible and listenable. Obviously, it is so for people equipped with a receptive intellect, haha. Yeah, it's highly intellectual kind of stuff. Let's strip The Dillinger Escape Plan and Gory Blister of vocal parts, and you will get Dysrhythmia indeed. You must be prepared for getting into the intellectual challenge and, hopefully, you will sort out with this legitimate disrhythm, haha. In my opinion, Dysrhythmia is a professional avantgarde instrumental dysrhythmic combo whose machinery is able to fight all sound barriers by playing freaky passages, and the one whose music is simply worth listening to.
