Wojciech Pilat - Riddles of Personality (demo) (2002)

Wojciech Pilat - Riddles of Personality (demo) (2002)Self-released

This is the second demo by a guitarist hailing from Poland who decided on showing his riddles of artist's personality, haha. This time again, he is entirely responsible for all instruments audible on the stuff.

The opener is a typical single-like track provided Pilat's perfect sense of melody. Another composition titled "Tenacity" is a proof that Wojciech Pilat as well mastered a difficult polyphonic wizardry. A horizon of styles here is really broad and proves both dynamic and serene faces of the music. Although, here is a load of dissimilar ideas, the stuff is consistent as a whole. You can encounter an instrumental rock as well as fusion in the vicinity of the progression. As always in Mr. Pilat's case, here is a dash of improvisations and progressive hints. On this demo, Wojciech seems to be in the middle of a genre quest, thus nobody can be sure what thrust will be chosen by him in the future. A Pole was on the verge of using drum programming on his first demo, and it can be considered the downside of "Riddles of Personality". I guess some of you can be annoyed by "artificial" drums and suppose that the live ones would make his music more vivid, but, on the other hand, instrumental concepts are resounding in places and can be in compensation for this element.

A budget can be a restraint for Mr. Pilat, but I assure you that his imagination and ideas' execution have no limits. His guitar manner is a blend of Bane Jelic's, Igor Belsky's and Michael Romeo's styles, so he is profesionally qualified to take on the competition with international guitar wizards. My complimentary review on his playing has nothing to do with the fact Mr. Pilat is of Polish nationality, but it is so because of his appealing melodic themes I do enjoy. I am convinced that it isn't worth rejecting demo stuffs and I hope some of you, my Dear Readers, are like-minded. I hope as well the second demo of Polish skillful master will go down well and achieve a positive feedback from others. Really, Wojciech Pilat deserves our appreciation and maybe one day he will be the guitarist most talked about in my country. Who knows?
