Editorial - Issue 7 (07)/2007

Some of you could read my editorial, regarding the tapping guitar technique, in the 4th issue of the Department of Virtuosity. If you remember, I only mentioned such tapping technique instrumentalists like Edward Van Halen, Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, but I would like to come back to that subject and develop it.

Do you know such country like Uzbekistan? It is a landlocked one in Central Asia. A man called Enver Izmailov was born there over 50 years ago (living now in Ukraine) and turned out be a very important person for the history of music. It is believed that he was the inventor of tapping technique and one of the greatest representatives for so-called double-handed tapping. To make this history much more fascinating, an American guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan invented the same technique thousands kilometres far from Uzbekistan at the same time! None of them were aware of it, and it was only revealed when they became more popular in jazz world!

You must admit that it is an amazing story that casts a new light on the history of tapping guitar technique. Dear Readers, please remember that there are almost always two sides to every coin! At the end of this editiorial, I would like to wish you all the best in the New Year of Virtuosity!
